Author description

Ahmed Fayaz has been a collector and grower of tropical plants for over 25 years. Growing up in the tropics and being interested in the plants around him, he soon recognised that identification of many of these plants was a mammoth task, requiring research into literature dating back many years, sometimes centuries. He has worked on conservation of the mangroves in the Maldives, orchids in Sri Lanka and vireya rhododendrons in Malesia. He is also co-founder and president of the Maldivian Wildlife Society. He works as an IT Manager and Database Developer as well as working on a doctorate in Plant Systematics at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand.
